Ethiopia / Gashena: Minibus project for the Gashena Medium Clinic

Ethiopia / Gashena: Minibus project for the Gashena Medium Clinic

This project lean-to the highly rated health service project which PBF is providing in the town called Gashena to the surrounding poorest people in the area. Because of the very hilly topography and the lack of safe transportation system as well as the incapability of the people to afford the cost of the available transport services, quite numbers of patients were dying on their way to the clinic. Most of the times, in view of resolving lack of transport facility, people usually have to carry the patient or they have to use a traditional bed -wheelchair made up of wood. Others have to take animal transportation system by using Donkeys or Horses to bring the patient. These options even worsen the health condition and pain of the patient before she/he reaches to the clinic and get the appropriate medical treatment as it causes irresistible physical and psychological discomfort and weakness to the patients which further complicate medical treatments. Disappointingly, the most vulnerable patients are Pregnant women who wish to deliver a child in the clinic, old and long aged persons who are suffering with senility and persons who are victims of crimes of rape, physical assault and bodily injury and people who experience accidents that demand urgent treatments.
Understanding these challenges, PBF has endorsed a project which appeals for the purchase of a Minibus car that can minimise the transportation problem. PBF believes that the minibus will make ease of access to the clinic so that people will get medication before their cases reach to the stage far from being treatable. The fact the road construction from Gashena to Lalibela will also accelerate the function of the minibus in a more comfortable and minimise the accident-prone transportation system in the area. Assisting towards self help and community projects

Assisting towards self help

Lalibela_2016 (41)

We must not, however, lose sight of the fate of the individual.
In principle this foundation does not see itself as merely handing out charity to the needy, but rather, invests in carefully planned and thought through sustainable projects which lead to self-help. But there are sometimes cases where individual people need fast and efficient help. For example, the birth of triplets can spell ruin for a family and the foundation can be of help in such a situation because we cannot allow ourselves to ignore the individual.
There are those people who are in fact capable of doing something but who have not yet been given the chance to do so and whose health is affected and so are without work. One of these people is Lesley Fernando. The foundation helped her to start a small business growing orchids and she now has more than 800 plants. With this she is able to provide for her family of 5. Aims and goals

The aims of the Bachmann Foundation

Helping dreams become reality.

Help in becoming self sufficient. This is what the Bachmann Foundation offers the needy people of Sri Lanka. Some of these people come from the lowest of castes, the potter caste. The foundation offers them material and conceptual help.
Once accepted by the population, this help becomes self-administering and with initiative, can increase in value and worth to an amount that can double the initial input. The activities of the foundation have often proved that the population of Sri Lanka is highly motivated. All it needs is a clear goal and just a small, helping push to enable them to transform their dreams into reality.
The main goal is to help the population once again find its own respect and dignity. This in turn will lead to a stronger and more stable social structure. Dignity stands at the heart of the foundation. This is why the Bachmann Foundation tries to give the people the chance to take the reins of their lives into their own hands. Cultural roots and traditions are respected, and allowances are made for ways of thinking and individual capabilities. It is only by following these guidelines that we can help constructively, and offer solutions.
The many religions in Sri Lanka are respected by the Foundation. The Foundation doesn’t adhere to any specific evangelical or political purpose. On the contrary the Bachmann Foundation takes pains to foster the coexistence of Buddhists, Hindus, Moslems and Christians. “From man to man.” – Personal contact with the donors and recipients is the methodology of the Bachmann Foundation. This system of close contact allows the Foundation to achieve a high rate of success, and coupled with the simple infrastructure, ensures that the donations are actually spent where they are needed.
