It is clear that the “opportunity cost” of attending school is often too high for families living in extreme poverty. As this might happen elsewhere, the dropout rate for boys in secondary school in Lalibela is frequently linked to household shocks.
Across almost all faith traditions, feeding a traveler or pilgrim is viewed not merely as a charitable act, but as a sacred duty. This practice, often referred to as “hospitality to the stranger,” is rooted in the belief that the host serves the Divine through the guest.
PBF Memorial Clinic is celebrating the first anniversary day with a colorful and great one-year achievement. This historic day is celebrated in a grand manner and a better future for the community. The program was attended by heads of local health institutions, local administration government officials, community figure elders, religious leaders and educational institutions.
CONTEXT:
The AfyaMtaani Team conducted a medical outreach in Mbuye Village, a rural community in Siaya County with limited access to quality healthcare services. The late George Orimba Odero, especially through his work with PBF, championed community health, education, and healthy nutrition for the poor of the poorest. One of his heartfelt dreams was to take medical care to underserved rural communities—particularly within his home village, Mbuye – where the elderly,
Children living with disabilities in rural communities of Teso subregion in Uganda face multiple layers of vulnerability. Beyond their physical or intellectual challenges, many are born into families struggling with extreme poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to healthcare. These challenges often deny them proper nutrition, health education, and dignity.
Over the past 20 years, PBF’s monthly and major holiday assistance has supported over 300 impoverished families. Food insecurity remains a critical issue for destitute, and PBF’s efforts have helped alleviate some of the hardships faced by those in need. The Christmas wheat flour support program aims to provide food for destitute families during the holiday season, bringing hope and sustenance to those struggling to make ends meet.

A Call to Help Flood-Affected Sri Lankan Families Find Safety and Stability
It has now been approaching one year since the PBF Memorial Clinic was inaugurated. The clinic has seen a steady increase in client numbers due to affordable costs for medicines and laboratory services, as well as the elimination of long-distance referrals for necessary tests. The community has responded positively, recognizing the clinic’s specialized services and commitment to health improvement.
The VDI center has collected many elderly homeless people at one place in Addis Ababa. More than 80 people come to the VDI every day at lunch to get a very simple meal to stay alive. Some also find permanent shelter at the VDI. All of them are very weak, vulnerable to diseases, without any security, and exposed to all the risks on the street.
