Shoes serve as a symbol of healing and dignity for elephantiasis-affected marginalized Manja communities.
A small gift. A big change. A step towards dignity
Healing is not something that begins in a hospital for many people, particularly those who are living with elephantiasis. It begins with something small: a pair of shoes. Swollen feet, cracked skin, and constant pain make every step a struggle. Without proper footwear, people can’t walk, work, or join community life. Being barefoot often means being vulnerable, excluded, and invisible.
A suitable shoe protects against wounds and infection, eases pain, and opens paths that were once closed. For those on the margins, one pair of shoes can mean “I can walk again.” I can live again. In many communities, wearing shoes is a visible sign of respect and belonging—a quiet but powerful statement against exclusion.
Every pair we give carries a story and a hope: the promise of movement, community, and a future. A pair of shoes costs little, but it changes a life. Help us restore dignity, step by step.
Several individuals received shoe support prior to the arrival of the rainy season since PBF established an elephantiasis rehabilitation center in Manja. This year PBF has supported shoes and blankets for 430 elephantiasis infected individuals.
