February 2026: Ethiopia / Lalibela: Construction of New Classroom for Debaray Satellite School

PBF Begins Construction of New Classroom for Debaray Satellite School

PBF has been working on a project in Ethiopia to support college and university students who are unable to pay for their education. Many of them are currently employed in both the public and private sectors.

In a significant step toward improving educational opportunities, PBF has commenced the construction of a new classroom at Debaray Satellite School. This initiative comes as a much-needed relief for students and teachers, who have faced challenging conditions for some time.

The previous classroom building was in a state of severe disrepair, rendering it unsafe for use. Crumbling walls, a weak roof, and an unstable structure meant that students and teachers could no longer occupy the facility without risking their safety. The dire situation forced the school community to seek alternative arrangements, resulting in classes being held in a makeshift tent.

Learning under a tent posed its own set of difficulties. Students had to brave the elements—heat, rain, and wind—while trying to focus on their studies. Despite these obstacles, the school community remained committed to education and demonstrated remarkable resilience.

Recognizing the urgent need for a safe and conducive learning environment, PBF stepped in to support the school. The new block with 4 classrooms will provide students with a secure and welcoming space to learn, grow, and thrive. The community of Debaray Satellite School is filled with hope and optimism as construction has already begun and the foundation has been laid.

This project underscores PBF’s commitment to supporting education and empowering communities through improved infrastructure. As construction progresses, the Debaray Satellite School stands as a testament to the power of community support and the importance of investing in the next generation. The classroom will belong to KG 1, 2, 3, and Grade 1 students.

Teachers, students, and parents alike have expressed their gratitude and excitement for the new facility, eagerly awaiting the day when students can once again learn in a safe and comfortable classroom.
