PBF helps build a septic tanker for the VDI center for the homeless in Addis Ababa.
The VDI center has collected many elderly homeless people at one place in Addis Ababa. More than 80 people come to the VDI every day at lunch to get a very simple meal to stay alive. Some also find permanent shelter at the VDI. All of them are very weak, vulnerable to diseases, without any security, and exposed to all the risks on the street.
Many of them have been displaced from the countryside to the metropolis, an increasingly expensive city, due to ethnic conflicts, food insecurity, and social isolation. In loneliness and without permanent housing, they seek to survive and sometimes find refuge under a shelter. It is challenging every day due to the increment of people who need help.
PBF supports every daily meal, shelter, kitchen, bed, and other modest necessities. Last year PBF supported repairing toilets. But because there aren’t enough septic tankers, the institution has had a hard time getting rid of the disposals every time. As a result, it becomes mandatory for VDI to have septic tanker to properly dispose of waste and maintain hygienic conditions for the residents.
PBF provides funding, and the coordinators are currently working hard to complete the construction as quickly as possible. Please look at the picture below for the progress of the construction.

My occasional visits to the VDI bring much spirit and emotion, touching words of thanks, and long prayers before and after meals. A strikingly loud “Amen” concludes the daily event.
