Ethiopian New Year Celebration at PBF Memorial Clinic and August 2025 Month Service Performance Evaluation
PBF Memorial Clinic is located south of Lalibela Town. There are around 20,000 households in the area, which is about 5 Km from Lalibela Public Hospital, but there is no other health facility. We are on the right track in providing better, modern medical care and closer access to healthcare for the community.
In a short period of time, it has organized and structured itself with strong management and is making contributions to community health. PBF Memorial Clinic merely focuses on organized routine medical service and therapeutic and preventive outpatient care. It is contributing to lessening the burden of preventable diseases and improving the general population’s health condition through illness prevention and early detection.
Outpatient attendance:
The longtime crucial problem of Lalibela and the surrounding community was the lack of a facility for early detection of disease. PBF Memorial Clinic is now the leader in using advanced technology with skilled professionals. As you have seen on the above report, 35 patients come from Lalibela Hospital for different tests (external laboratory). If the PBF memorial clinic weren’t in Lalibela, these 35 patients would have to travel to Dessie, Bahir Dar, or Addis Ababa to undergo their laboratory tests within a month. We prevented the high financial and time waste as well as the hardship of long distances for patients in our community.
We have well-organized emergency response care that enables faster patient recovery. However, there are some significant health problems that need high-level investigations. We have 6 referred patients in this given month—those who were referred for CT scan investigation, blood transfusion, and hospital direct observation management.
Pharmaceutical care:
We have recently established working on the provision of medicines based on the health problems and needs of the community for medicines. PBF Memorial Clinic is now the best medical facility for drug supplies in Lalibela. According to the feedback we gathered from the community, we have realized that we have to open a pharmacy in the center of the town; it will be a relief for patients from Lalibela Hospital who travel 5 km to get necessary medicine from the PBF Memorial Clinic pharmacy.
We are offering a different scope of services, providing definitive treatment and specialized services. The medical need of the population in this area is dedicated to a specialized comprehensive hospital. It is a long-term dream for PBF, and now it is very dedicated to providing primary health care for Lalibela and the surrounding community. We are fulfilling the local healthcare gaps by addressing significant local health problems, increasing access to preventative care over curative services, expanding our capacity to access essential drugs and supplies, and improving the laboratory diagnostic center.
Since August was the last month of the Ethiopian calendar, evaluation and monitoring were done. Lastly, all the PBF trustees collected and celebrated the Ethiopian New Year in the PBF Memorial Clinic and with the staff.
