June 2025: Ethiopia / Lalibela: Dr. Robert Sucher from the Austrian Ethiopian Society visited PBF Memorial Clinic.

Dr. Robert Sucher from the Austrian Ethiopian Society visited PBF Memorial Clinic.

Numerous individuals, including officials, guests, and the general public, have visited the clinic since its official opening and have been consistently taken aback by our performance. One of the most important missions of the PBF Memorial Clinic is also integrating our healthcare service into the outside world. This involves creating channels for donors and volunteer health professionals to be able to get involved in the clinic and contribute with their professional, financial, and material supply to the clinic. This enables the clinic to be well equipped with medical equipment and human resources to better serve the community.

Dr. Sucher, an Austrian retired medical doctor from the Austrian Ethiopian Society, spent two days of time this week at the PBF Memorial Clinic. He has served Ethiopians for the last 10 years with health sector through their organization, the Austria-Ethiopia Society. He heard about the PBF Memorial Clinic in Lalibela from his friend and guide Mulugeta W/Michael. He was really admiring our clinic’s safety and cleanliness, comfortable environment for patients, well-structured laboratory services like ultrasound and other machines, pharmaceutical setup, software-based paperless system, and the staff’s commitment and interaction with clients.

He understood the advantages for the community, such as the free service campaign (e.g., cataract, trachoma, and eyeglasses) and the availability of pharmaceuticals, efficient operation, and the prevention of referrals. PBF Memorial Clinic avoided many referrals, fatigue, and financial problems for the people for many laboratory tests and treatments. He also observed our limitation, which is the absence of an X-ray machine due to its higher cost.

We explained our dream to be on General Hospital to fill our limitations and gaps. In Ethiopia, there are restrictive rules for being a medium clinic for providing services people need. Subsequently, the PBF Memorial Clinic team is preparing a strategy to expand the clinic to the General Hospital within the next few years in order to overcome restrictions regarding public health accessibility and affordability.

PBF Memorial Clinic has its own accommodation (Pearl) for those who are interested in volunteering to work in health care for our people. We believe these arrangements will make it easier for voluntary health professionals from elsewhere who are interested in helping our poor society.

Finally, Dr. Sucher promised to support the PBF memorial clinic’s humanitarian services by introducing the institutions for Austrian people and the Austrian-Ethiopian society (his team). He is highly interested in working closely with PBF Memorial Clinic.

We sincerely value the time he is taking to visit us.
