May 2025: Kenya/ Serialization of Dr. Peter’s Visit to Kenya
Introduction
Dr. Peter first visited Kenya in the early 2000 as a private visitor. He met several people who showed him around various parts of if the country. He later started supporting projects and individuals in the areas of groups and self-help. These included small business, agriculture, access to water and individual medical support. Many young students from poor Nairobi slums and rural villages got a chance to study and start small business.
Towards the end of his stay in Kenya, I Dan Amolo met Dr. Peter at a conference center, Rosa Mystical in Nairobi. I was there to represent the Street Children Center, St Benedict popularly known as Madodo. I worked in this center as a street worker in charge of recruiting children living in the streets for rehabilitation and eventual reintegration into formal education.

I had various challenges at my workplace that I shared with dear Peter and he LISTENED to me. At that time, I had just graduated from the University of Nairobi where I trained as a teacher but I knew I would not get a job. I volunteered to work with my local church as a youth coordinator. I eventually founded the Street Children rehabilitation Center and got employed. My work was recruiting street children into the program, offer lessons and do fundraising. I later got a chance to travel to Germany at the invitation if a youth group who had visited and seen our work in Mathare. I continued to hist and work with various volunteers from Germany who helped us to raise funds to expand our activities in the Center.
When I met Dr. Peter, he encouraged me to stay and continue with my work with the street children. He promised to support my stay there by sponsoring me to continue with my education. I registered for my Masters at the Tangela University College to peruse an Anthropology course, Masters in African Studies. As I studied, I continued with my Street work in Mathare and also founded another branch in Kisumu called Cadmic. During this time dear Peter assigned me to follow up on various Projects and individuals he was supporting before I met him. I encountered a lot of rejection, frustrations and personal threats from people who viewed me as competitor for Peter’s attention. I chose to concentrate on my work in Mathare even after I was suspended by my bosses at Street Children.
Peter supported my education and care for the orphaned 3 boys left to me by my late brother. I felt guilty to present more cases that I delt with in Mathare because I did not want to distract dear Peter from projects send people, he had me before me. I continued to use my networking skills to seek little help I could get for the children of Mathare alongside my family burden.
I have tried my best and I continue doing so in Kenya and from wherever I live. I have stayed faithful to my people, my original vocation to serve my Mathare people as a Lay Missionary. I am very honored to have had the opportunity to host dear Peter and dear Brother Getachew after more than 20 years in Kenya, in my household together with George.
