May 2025: Dan Amolo: My Long-Term Journey with PBF

My Long-Term Journey with PBF

After meeting Peter Bachmann in Kenya/Nairobi in 2004, he entrusted me with supporting and following up on various projects he had initiated with individuals and groups. Around the same time, Peter invited me to accompany him to Lalibela, Ethiopia, where PBF had begun project work under Getachew Aydagnw, a forest engineer. For many years, I accompanied Peter on his PBF trips, which spanned Kenya, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and so on. In Kenya, I continued to support and organize the various projects and individuals supported by PBF. I continued to work freelance in Mathare as a social worker with the PBF Board of Trustees and Dr. Peter. I continued to mentor the children of Mathare whom I rescued from the streets. I try my best to provide them with every possible support, be it education, survival, or personal development. I have welcomed many of them into my family.

In 2013, I moved to Germany on a family reunification visa to join my wife. Previously, Peter had invited me to his home in Switzerland several times and introduced me to his work, his friends, and his family. I learned a great deal from him and about his mission at PBF. The insights I gained have helped me in my work over the years.

Peter also introduced me to Elisabeth Weber, a very dedicated friend of PBF. She accepted me and cared deeply for me and my family. She attended my wedding to my wife Sonja as a PBF representative and was always there for me as a person, especially during very difficult times.

After moving to Germany, Peter also introduced me to the PBF Board. I continued my work by coordinating some PBF activities, reviewing requests, and interpreting them based on logic, sustainability, and cultural rationality. I continue to support Peter in responding to and implementing these requests in consultation with the other PBF Council members in the various countries where we work.

I was seconded to represent PBF in Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia.

I also had the opportunity to complete a second Master’s degree in European Social Work at Hanze University in the Netherlands. I continue to apply my knowledge and experience in my work at PBF.

In the spirit of PBF, I want to continue building networks and connections that promote the growth and dignity of vulnerable people around the world.

Together with other social work professionals and people of goodwill, I continue to support and develop various projects that I helped establish. These include the St. Benedict Children Street Children Program, St. Maurus Children, One World Network, Cadamic, Friends of St. Maurus, and Page Vision School in Mathare, Nairobi. These projects have benefited from my planning, fundraising, and networking over the years. We face various challenges, and now that I’ve had the opportunity to present them to Peter during his on-site visit in May 2025, I can only hope that PBF will continue to support us in some way.

Thank you.
