It is not possible for the rural community to afford the cataract surgery unless they get such kinds of free campaigns. For this reason, the clinic invited an experienced ophthalmologist, Dr. Abrham, and supporting staff for the cataract campaigns to provide free cataract surgeries.
In the last month, the clinic screened 470 patients for the campaign from 1,076 visiting clients. The clinic successfully performed cataract surgeries during the campaign in collaboration with Lalibela Hospital.
The following statistics emerged as diagnosed:
- 113 cataracts
- 66 trachoma cases
- 37 glaucoma cases
- 57 infectious and other eye diseases
- The remaining 197 patients were appointed next time for further evaluation and treatment.
When the patients gained sight, they were thrilled to express their emotions. The clinic plans to continue providing free cataract surgeries in future campaigns to help more patients regain their sight. The success of the collaboration with Lalibela Hospital has inspired the staff to expand their services and reach even more individuals in need.
