December 2024: Ethiopa: impoverished families received immediate rehabilitation assistance

In the vicinity of the PBF Memorial Clinic, impoverished families received immediate rehabilitation assistance.

Mergeta Feleke is 80 years old, and his wife, Alemitu Bitew, is 65 years old. They were displaced 2 years ago from Tigray. They are living in a temporary shelter 500 meters away from the Peter Bachmann Foundation Memorial Clinic. A person who works on our clinic construction took me to visit this family.

What I saw was a difficult family life. They are not paying for the house rent that a good person gave them to live in temporarily. Mergeta Feleke works as a night watchman at a personal shop and earns $11 per month. There are 4 in the house (Eshetu, 25-year-old son, and Babi Eshetu’s son, 2 years old; Feleke and his wife Alemitu). Babi, whose physical appearance is clearly malnourished. His mother had left him on the road in front of PBF Memorial Clinic at 40 days old, and the surrounding community’s monthly contribution for the milk, he became 2 years old now. His father, Eshetu, is looking after his mother in the house because she has a kidney problem, and she can’t move without his support in the house. The local resident was helping them by collecting flour and such house to house. They are living in the very worst parts of life. They have nothing in the house! Babi is a needy boy and wants to be orphanage support.

So as soon as I visited them, I decided to help them with 100 kg of raw teff and give them 10,000 birr to fulfill some other food components and to take Alemitu to the hospital. Because we are a part of that community, and as PBF memorial clinic we are now a member of that community, we have to contribute. We do! It is the best way to help by providing rehabilitation and hospital visits.

Here are Mergeta Feleke and his wife, Alemitu
