January 2021: Sri Lanka, Chilaw: Christmas celebrations

Christmas celebrations at the Children in Chilaw, Sri Lanka.

PBF built a center for children living with various special needs. This center cares for these children who suffer various forms of challenges and discrimination. This is a big relief to parents who can be assured of their children’s safely as they struggle with their daily survival.

Fr Ranjan Jayamanna, the newly appointed director of the PBF Children center shared with us his impressions, challenges and opportunities. He spends weekdays in the center providing counseling to the children and their parents.

He plans to introduce vocational training courses for the students of PBF who are capable of doing them. They have also put plans to introduce home gardening, landscaping and computer applications  up from next year. This will help to attract more students to the institute next year as well as create income generation activities with the parents and students.

The Covid 19 disrupted the daily classes in the institution but the staff managed to keep contacts with the students and the parents to continue their lessons online. The staff reported  to the institution on week days and did home gardening with some of the students though.

On the 15th of December, the children , their parents and the staff held Christmas celebrations at the center to mark the end of the year. There were lots of entertainment by the children and gifts were exchanged.

Fr.Ranjan on behalf of the staff , the children and the parents expressed special thanks to Ms.Elisabeth Weber for her longtime association and support to the Center through PBF
