Ethiopia / Gashena: Minibus project for the Gashena Medium Clinic

This project lean-to the highly rated health service project which PBF is providing in the town called Gashena to the surrounding poorest people in the area. Because of the very hilly topography and the lack of safe transportation system as well as the incapability of the people to afford the cost of the available transport services, quite numbers of patients were dying on their way to the clinic. Most of the times, in view of resolving lack of transport facility, people usually have to carry the patient or they have to use a traditional bed -wheelchair made up of wood. Others have to take animal transportation system by using Donkeys or Horses to bring the patient. These options even worsen the health condition and pain of the patient before she/he reaches to the clinic and get the appropriate medical treatment as it causes irresistible physical and psychological discomfort and weakness to the patients which further complicate medical treatments. Disappointingly, the most vulnerable patients are Pregnant women who wish to deliver a child in the clinic, old and long aged persons who are suffering with senility and persons who are victims of crimes of rape, physical assault and bodily injury and people who experience accidents that demand urgent treatments.
Understanding these challenges, PBF has endorsed a project which appeals for the purchase of a Minibus car that can minimise the transportation problem. PBF believes that the minibus will make ease of access to the clinic so that people will get medication before their cases reach to the stage far from being treatable. The fact the road construction from Gashena to Lalibela will also accelerate the function of the minibus in a more comfortable and minimise the accident-prone transportation system in the area.
